Interactive Learning Resource – Peer Review of POD 6
Overview
Overall, we really enjoyed reading Pod 6’s learning resource on climate change. It shows climate change in a way that felt organized, accessible, and meaningful for learners. The website guides learners through the topic step-by-step, which helps them build understanding of climate change, its causes, and the effects before providing resources that encourage learners to think about how they can respond through everyday action. I appreciated that the resource not only shares important information, but also encourages learners to think about how climate change connects to their own lives and choices. Together, the structure, simple language, and practical focus make this resource an engaging and thoughtful learning experience.
Strengths
A major strength of this project is its thoughtful and well-organized structure. The website allows users to navigate content intuitively, with clearly defined modules such as “Greenhouse Gases,” “Causes of Climate Change,” “Effects of Climate Change on Earth and Animals,” and “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle,” which guide learning in a logical progression from understanding the issue to considering actionable solutions. Additionally, each module incorporates links to curated external resources, extending learning beyond the site and encouraging users to explore multiple perspectives.
The inclusion of the “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” module is particularly effective, as it shifts the focus from understanding climate change to taking practical action. This action-oriented approach encourages learners to apply their knowledge in real-world contexts, making the learning experience more meaningful and impactful. Furthermore, the use of clear and accessible language supports a wide range of learners, making complex concepts easier to understand. The structure of the modules also supports initial learner engagement by guiding users through progressively deeper understanding, which aligns well with effective instructional design principles.
Areas for improvement
As a group, we have a few suggestions that we think could really level up the accessibility and overall flow for the learners. Right now the modules are great for giving out info, but to really get to those UDL goals for action and expression, it would be cool to see more than just reading and watching. Giving the students a choice in how they show what they learned, like maybe creating a digital poster, a short video or even a voice memo for that final module would make the whole thing feel a lot more inclusive for different types of students.
We also think adding some small check your understanding points after each module would help a lot with the scaffolding. It doesn’t have to be a graded quiz or anything, but just a few quick interactive questions or even a Padlet board would move it from a passive experience to a more constructivist one where they are actually engaging with the material. This would also help the students feel confident they’ve actually hit the learning objectives before they move on to the next part.
Lastly, just a quick note on the multimedia design side of things regarding spatial contiguity. We noticed in a few spots that you have to scroll a bit to see the diagrams that go with the text. Keeping those visuals right next to the explanations would really help lower the cognitive load so the students aren’t stuck hunting for the context. Also, making sure all the video resources have clear captions or a transcript would be great for accessibility to make sure every learner can get the full value out of the content.
Final Thoughts
Honestly, we think the project is in a really good spot and it is clear the team put a ton of work into making the content actually relatable for high schoolers. The blog post looks professional and focusing on making climate change feel personal rather than just a global problem is a great way to keep students from tuning out. If the final version can mix together watching videos and actually interacting with the material through some of those UDL choices we mentioned, it will be an awesome resource. You definitely hit the main goals of the assignment and our group is very excited to see the final polished version.
